My recent legal experience has shown me that people are no longer people, legally speaking. Not only are corporations people, but they are the only people eligible for legal protections.
People are no longer people and have no rights under the law. The experience has wiped me out financially, ruined my career and left me destitute, depressed and considering suicide.
I have no doubt that many residents of East Palestine will suffer greatly. It’s likely that many will die before any government official or their corporate owners will be held legally responsible for destroying the lives of hundreds, potentially thousands of innocent people.
Although their guilt is easy for all of us to see now, it will take at least a decade, probably longer before any East Palestinian resident is meagerly compensated with a pitiful and insulting sum that might cover half the medical costs incurred. A decision that might be appealed by the guilty parties if this criminal disaster has left our public awareness by then ensuring that none of the affected residents who have had their lives turned upside down will ever see one red cent for their pain.
Sorry for the gloom and doom. I have lost all hope in the United States ever doing “the right thing” again.
